Terms of Use
Glimmerhop
These terms apply to Glimmerhop on Android and iOS (the “game”). The game is made by Timm Roark Garde, trading as Candlewren Games (“we”, “us”), an individual (sole proprietor) based in South Africa; Candlewren Games is an unregistered trade name. By installing or playing the game you agree to these terms. Please also read our Privacy Policy: https://candlewren.com/privacy/
1. Your licence to play
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play the game on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment, in line with these terms and the rules of the store you got it from.
The game, its characters, art, music, voices and all other content belong to us or our licensors. You may not copy, sell, rent, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the game, except where the law allows it despite this restriction.
On iPhone and iPad, Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies, and these terms add to it. If the two conflict on something Apple’s agreement covers, Apple’s agreement wins: on iOS, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies wherever it conflicts with these terms.
2. Who can play
Glimmerhop is meant for players aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, please play with your parent’s or guardian’s knowledge and ask them before you buy anything. Parents and guardians can require approval for purchases in Google Play and the App Store.
3. Glow and cosmetic items
The game includes Glow, an in-game currency, and cosmetic items (including cosmetic sets and the Starter and Founders packs). Some can be earned by playing; some can also be bought with real money through Google Play or the App Store.
- They are a licence, not property. When you earn or buy Glow or a cosmetic item, you get a limited licence to use it in the game. It is not money, has no cash value, cannot be exchanged for money or anything outside the game, and cannot be sold, traded, gifted or transferred to another player or device except through the store’s own family or restore features.
- Glow does not expire. Bought Glow stays in your game until you spend it.
- Changes. We may rebalance prices in Glow, change how items look or work, or retire items from sale, to keep the game working and fair. We will not take away a cosmetic item you have bought because of a rebalance. If we ever have to remove a bought item entirely (for example for legal reasons), we will replace it with something of similar value or tell you how to ask for a refund.
- If the game is discontinued, we will give at least 30 days’ notice in the game or on candlewren.com before purchases stop working, and we will stop selling items before that.
- Chests. Random-content chests in the game are earned by playing only. They cannot be bought with real money or with Glow.
4. Purchases, restores and refunds
- Payment is handled entirely by Google Play or Apple under their terms. We never see your card details.
- No account. Glimmerhop has no Candlewren account. Your purchases are linked to your Google or Apple account, and your game progress, including your Glow balance, is saved on your device.
- Restoring purchases. The Starter and Founders packs and cosmetic sets can be restored on a new device or after reinstalling: sign in to the same store account and tap Shop → Restore purchases.
- Glow packs are used up when bought: the Glow is added to the save on that device. If you delete the game or lose the device without a backup, the store cannot restore Glow that was in that save. See our support page for backup tips: https://candlewren.com/support/
- Refunds are decided by the store you paid through, under its own refund
policy and your legal rights:
- Google Play: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637
- App Store: https://reportaproblem.apple.com/ We cannot issue refunds ourselves, but if something you bought did not arrive or does not work, email us and we will help.
- Your legal rights. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer, for example under South Africa’s Consumer Protection Act, 2008 and Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 2002, the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, or EU consumer law, including rights about faulty digital content.
- Immediate delivery. Digital items are delivered as soon as you buy them. Where the law gives you a right to cancel (for example the 14-day right in the UK and the EU), you agree that delivery starts straight away and that, where the law allows, you lose that right once the item is delivered, as the store explains at checkout.
5. Ads
The game offers optional rewarded video ads from Google AdMob. Watching one is always your choice. Ads are non-personalised unless you accept personalised ads in Google’s consent form, and are limited to content Google rates as suitable for teens (see the Privacy Policy, section 4.3). Ads are provided by Google and other advertisers; we do not control their content, but you can report an ad through the ad itself or by emailing us.
6. Fair play
Please do not:
- cheat by modifying the game, its save files or its network traffic, or use tools to get Glow or items without earning or buying them;
- exploit bugs to get Glow or items (please tell us about them instead);
- interfere with ads, purchases or the stores’ systems;
- use the game for anything unlawful.
If you do, we may refuse support for the affected items.
7. The game as it is
We work hard to make Glimmerhop good and keep it working, but we provide it “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be free of bugs or always available, and we may update, change or stop it.
We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence, or for your statutory rights. Otherwise, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the game and in-game purchases in the 12 months before the claim.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the game changes or the law requires it. We will change the effective date and, for significant changes, tell you in the game or on this page. If you keep playing after a change, the new terms apply.
9. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa have jurisdiction over any dispute about them. This does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live: if you live in the UK, the EU or another country whose consumer law lets you bring a claim in your own courts or rely on its protections, you keep that right.
Please email us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly.
